Inspired by a small black dog named Ziggy, all of these poems are written in his perspective.
All poems in this section were composed by Marty W. Poems from a Small Black Dog’Äôs Perspective Cats! Cats laze in the sun
While they're lounging, they have senses none
Turning over sleepily
Lying, basking, sleeping, snore...
Then
I
Sneak
Silently
Where
They
Cannot
See...
I
Slip
Around
The corner, quiet
I strike and...
What a riot!
They lunge,
I dodge,
Claws out of velvet paws!
I get away!
I'll try again another day

Going Out My family dresses in clothes so fine,
I realize where they're going and start to whine
"Can't I go to dinner, just once, please oh please?"
"I only want a burger with tons of extra cheese!"
Marty leans down and pats me on my head
"Oh Ziggy, don't worry, just lie down and go to bed."
Then they drive away in their car,
Even though they told me they weren't going far.
I bark and bark, loud as you please
All I really wanted was a burger with cheese.
Finally I'm finished and I walk around.
I find a place to sleep and I lie down
I hear a noisy scratching at the door
Cats are coming to get me, 1000 or more!
The wind is howling with whoops and shrieks
I settle down and try to go to sleep
Finally, they come home, I'm filled with joy!
I love it when they tell me that I'm a good boy.

Walks in Kilauea When the leash comes out, I'm filled with joy,
A walk is worth my favorite toy!
I'm usually out all alone,
On the property, on my own.
We hop in the car and drive to town
By this time, I'm jumping up and down!
We park and get out on the street,
So many smells, soft and sweet.
In that can, some of the stuff
Is green mold pasta (is that gross enough?)
Four-day-old milk, butter and cheese,
Not even an ant that would please.
Week-old fish with white wine sauce.
(Could have been fed to me, what a loss.)
Then we continue on our walk.
Mom sees my friend and we stop to talk.
The owner of the human is a hound
We touch noses and walk around
pretty soon we stroll away.
Wow! What a pretty day! Lettuce The one thing I will not eat,
Even given as a treat,
Is lettuce, dressing matters not,
Sometimes I'm fed it, but not a whole lot
But if I do get it, then bless my soul,
I will just take it right out of my bowl
